EPBD recast: greater ambition needed to deliver the 2030 and 2050 climate targets

In light of the crucial vote on the EPBD revision happening on the 9th February, the WorldGBC sent today an open letter – with PU Europe as one of the co-signers – calling on Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) to ensure the following two measures are taken into consideration during the vote:

  • Accelerate building renovation and address energy use and efficiency via the introduction of Minimum Energy Performance Standards and harmonisation of Energy Performance Certificates.
  • Address total lifecycle emissions of buildings, via the introduction of Whole Life Carbon (operational and embodied) emissions provisions.

Only by addressing these points, the EU can hope to reach the 2030 and 2050 climate targets, meaning more sustainable buildings, tackling energy poverty and creating up to up to 3.3 million green jobs in the EU every year.
